Description:
|
This is a new seat created largely from the old Chislehurst constituency. The notional 1992 result for Bromley & Chislehurst suggests this should be a very safe Tory seat. The original constituency of Bromley disappeared in 1974. The former Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, was the MP here from 1945 to 1964. This constituency is dominated by the impact of commuting as the packed trains from London's Charing Cross and Victoria Stations testify. Bromley town centre is a major attraction for shoppers from a wide area as a result of some major redevelopments over the last few years. Over 50% of workers are in professional, managerial or technical occupations. The constituency has the 24th highest level of skilled non-manuals in England & Wales and the 12th lowest level for the partly skilled.
