This is a diary of my trip to Madrid, where we filmed Jenny Eclair's Spanish Christmas
Read on and find out what I got up to before filming began. I've
got a smattering of Spanish but I wonder what it would have been like if
I was really fluent or if I had someone around who could help me?
10.00
Arrived at Madrid airport. The first thing I had to do was catch a
taxi
to the hotel.
10.
30
Checked in at the hotel.
Managed to do in all in Spanish! I was dead impressed with myself.
A bit of a wash and brush up and then out on the town.
11.00
Found a little bar
and had a coffee. It's great to just sit and people-watch.
13.00
Bought some turrón, sort of Spanish nougat. I was going to take it
back as a present
but I liked it so much I ate the lot and had to go back for more!
14.00
Thought I'd visit the modern art gallery - el Museo Reina Sofia. I
had to ask directions
in order to find it. Didn't do badly.
17.00
Spotted a great pair of shoes.
They were such a bargain I just couldn't resist. Well, if you're
on holiday you've got to go shopping.
20.00
I love Spanish food! Decided not to sit down for a whole meal but
to grab some tapas
instead. They're great - you can try out lots of different things.
22.00
Wasn't sure what to do on my own in the evening but then spotted the
latest Harrison Ford film was on. Even managed to buy the ticket
in Spanish!
Midnight.
I'm exhausted and am tucked up in bed - I can hear the Madrileños
outside just beginning their night out. Where do they get the energy!
What
a fantastic trip - everything went brilliantly. But I wonder what
I would have done if I'd had some kind of emergency.
Suppose I better check out a few phrases before the next trip. Anyway,
they speak Spanish in loads of places - where should I head for next?
