CGI animation shows a variety of specialised cells to introduce the components of a cell. The presenters then build an animal cell, describing what each part does: membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus. Specialised cells are exemplified with the following: ovum, sperm, neuron.

Students could carry out practical examination of a range of plant, animal and microbial cells, comparing their size, shape and structure and presenting their thoughts about how a cell’s appearance relates to what it does.
