Classroom Ideas

The children might consider Sir William Beveridge, his life and work as well as the impact he had on the post war years. The class could collaborate to discuss and agree on what the five evils of today would be that must be conquered? They might produce a poster to symbolise them and begin to think about how they might go about solving them. This clip can be used for research into the changes that have taken place since 1930 on the lives of men, women and children from different sections of society, or as a stimulus piece for a discussion on the development of the Welfare State.
