Barnaby Bear goes on a tour of Papa Westray in the Orkneys. He sees some of the beautiful beaches and an old abandoned house. At the pier, the ferry is coming in, bringing supplies for the island in very large containers. These include oil for homes, petrol for cars and food to stock the only shop on the island.

Classroom Ideas

This clip is useful for finding out how goods get to and from the island. The children could discuss how petrol and food gets to the shops in your local town and compare to Orkney, thinking about how long it takes and how difficult it is. The clip could also be used as an introduction to investigating the wildlife on and around Orkney and how this compares to your local habitats.
