In Australia it’s compulsory to vote. Everyone over the age of 18 must cast a vote in the local, federal and state elections, or face a fine of about £25. A young teenager takes a tour of the Australian parliament to find out the difference between the Australian and British political systems.

The clip could be used as a stimulus to conduct a discussion about whether voting should be compulsory in the UK. Would such legislation be reasonable? Could the law be enforced in the UK? What punishments and penalties do students think would be sufficient to force people to vote?
