A role play situation in which a waiter asks customers what they are going to order as a starter and main course. The customers state how they want their food to be cooked. Cultural knowledge is given on how long the French spend eating and how often they eat out.

Can be used as a listening task about ordering a meal in a restaurant, or as a model for student role plays. Contains a useful variety of ordering phrases, e.g. 'Je vais prendre...' and 'Je choisis...' Includes detailed descriptions of dishes and authentic interactions, e.g. 'J'hésite' and 'Qu'est-ce que vous pouvez nous recommender?' Could be adapted into the past/ future tense for a piece of speaking/ writing about eating out in France. Contains key phrases in written form to aid understanding.
