Classroom Ideas

An introduction to the concepts of safety and risk in an environment which is familiar to children. Prior to watching the clip, children could be asked for their opinions about safety and playgrounds. After viewing, discussion could focus on the importance of challenge in a playground coupled with the development of self-regulation of risk. A possible activity could be to design a new piece of playground equipment which strikes the balance between fun, challenge, risk and safety. Another approach to the clip could be looking at how Science is used in employment and the role of the inspection officer. By analysing the various testing methods, links could be made with forces and many areas of Numeracy.
