Eon Straddler, time traveller, and his hapless assistant take four short trips back in time to pre-history, through Ancient Greece, Regency England and back to the present day. Wherever they stop, they consider the evolution of cutlery from a tool to 'kill and cut' to a set of instruments that spoke volumes about the prestige of the owner. In a light-hearted and humorous approach, we learn about the contextual and stylistic influences on both the 'look' and function of the objects.

This clip could be used as part of the children’s DT work where they are asked to design and make a new piece of cutlery for the future, using the clip to evaluate existing products already on the market. For a History topic the children could draw a timeline of cutlery through the years, its purpose and the types of food eaten over the years. This could also be used with a selection of cutlery pictures and the children have to write the function of each piece of cutlery.
