A young man describes how becoming a Buddhist gave him purpose and meaning after an aimless life in South London. Now a monk at the Samye Ling monastery in Dumfries and Galloway, he speaks about the importance of prayer and worship from the colourful shrine room. There is a brief reminder of the different forms of Buddhism at the end of the clip.

Classroom Ideas

Before viewing the clip, ask pupils to make a list of what they feel are the most important things in their life that they could not live without. After viewing the clip, ask, "Why might a young person decide to give up everything and live this sort of life?" They could then explore religious communities and vocation and study the importance of prayer and worship for Buddhists.
