After the first day of the Hajj, pilgrims stay overnight at the valley of Mina. In the morning they travel to the plain of Arafat, where the Prophet Muhammad gave his farewell speech. Here, pilgrims need to make their stand before Allah on the Mount of Mercy between noon and dusk. At night fall they travel to Muzdalifah where they spend the night.

Students could be given a map of the Middle East. They could annotate the map with each of the important places on the Hajj and what happens there. Students could also write a diary entry for each of the days travelling, including detailed information about the importance of the Hajj as one of the five pillars of Islam and about the process of pilgrimage itself.
