Scrabo Tower in County Down built on an ancient sand dune and like many of Belfast's buildings, is made of sandstone, quarried from the area.

KS4 students will be able to investigate the properties of sandstone and why it has been selected to be a very important building resource in Northern Ireland. Students could also do a deeper study researching other geological factors based within this region and identify the different geological features caused by these various rock types.
