An introduction to the famous North African couscous recipe and its cultural importance. The recipe is given and the ingredients and method for making couscous is explained in detail. We see how food brings people together, wherever the food comes from.

This could be used to revise food items, with a short starter using pictures and words to be matched. Pupils could then number the items of the starter in the order they hear them in. A deeper understanding could entail pupils listening out for reasons why the couscous dish is so important in North Africa, and now France. Finally, this could be the basis for a revision of the imperative, or the ON form of present tense, with pupils translating a basic recipe they might have recently cooked, and reading it out to one another, for others to guess which dish was being made.
