Two teenage girls, Ellie and Olivia, describe how their social networking pages were infiltrated by a much older man. The story becomes more disturbing when the man actually approaches Ellie on a school art trip to London. Helen Penn from CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) talks about the incidence of cyberstalking and the responsibility that social networking sites have for protecting their users.

This clip could be used to raise awareness of the measures that young people should be taking to protect themselves when using social networking and other internet sites. Ask students what they should do if they feel they are being approached inappropriately online. Ask the pupils to draw up a leaflet about safe internet use, highlighting the benefits and identifying any potential pitfalls.
