Description

After the Second World War, existing tenements in Glasgow were pulled down and replaced with high rise developments. The poorly designed new housing soon became uninhabitable and were also pulled down and replaced. This has been funded in partnership between the city council and housing associations.

Students could look at local examples of town planning. Housing and town planning could link well with geography topics. The Gorbals example could provide a good basis for cross-curricular study looking at the design issues encountered with system built high rise schemes.
