Description

Respiration is described as being similar to burning in that oxygen is combined with glucose to release energy. The products and reactants are shown. Plant respiration is also described and the photosynthesis equation shown. Sugar made mainly in leaves is carried to all parts of the plant which respire in phloem.

Classroom Ideas

Students could design a poster explaining the difference between photosynthesis and respiration, and how both processes are vital to sustaining an ecosystem. A very simple ecosystem of an insect and a plant can be shown, either for real or illustratively, to show how the processes working at the same time keeps both plants and animals alive.
