Classroom Ideas

Use this clip as a stimulus for pupils' own exploration of stringed instruments. How many different types of sound can they make by altering the string length and the way they strike the strings? Use as a stimulus for pupils' independent research into stringed instruments – their names, how they are played and which countries and cultures they are used in. Each of the instruments shown in the clip makes a very different sound. Put together a word list which includes possible descriptions of the timbral qualities of each of the instruments shown in the clip. Now ask the pupils to find the best word to describe each instrument.
