Could be used to reinforce the importance of drawing from direct information. Students could be given the theme ‘identity’ and the class could discuss what this word means. They could consider what defines their ‘identity’ (their heritage, diet, fashion, interests or opinions) and research how other artists have explored this theme. Pupils could collect objects important to their identity in a glass jar and make sketches from this. These drawings could then be developed further in different media.
