A look at how people travel to work in France. A range of transport methods is shown, with the most common being the train. Background information is given on the use of the train system, which is the biggest system in Europe. We also see how to buy train tickets, ask for the times of train departures and arrivals, how to understand types of tickets, class of tickets, smoking or non-smoking compartments and whether or not the journey is direct.

Classroom Ideas

Can be used to revise or reinforce travel and transport vocabulary, or as a listening task to check understanding of key phrases. Would work well as a gap-fill, allowing pupils to match written phrases to what they hear in the clip. Could also be used as a model for a piece of speaking or writing about travel and tourism. Contains key phrases in written form to aid comprehension.
