An introduction to a variety of butterflies with particular emphasis on the 'Gatekeeper' butterfly. We learn how the Gatekeeper got its name by living in the hedgerows often found next to gates in fields. The Gatekeeper butterfly also has specific 'eye markings' to distract prey.

This clip could be used as an introduction to a study of butterflies and the different varieties in Britain and further afield. It could also be used in a discussion about how butterflies got their names. It is an excellent starter to a research project.
