Classroom Ideas

While the clip is playing, ask children to join in with the magic pencil, writing in the air with their fingers and chanting along to the rhyme. Repeat the clip, but this time without the sound, challenging individuals to supply the rhyme from memory. Follow up with a handwriting session, encouraging children to practise the letter formations they have seen. As well as using paper and pencil, children could explore forming and joining the letters 'oa' in a variety of other media, perhaps writing in wet sand, or with chalk, or with paint. Copy and display the poem from the clip, as a lasting reminder.
