Description

Jonathan West from Butser Ancient Farm talks about the Celtic way of life. He explains that to see any Celtic historical evidence is rare, as all their buildings were made from bio-degradable materials, and describes how the Roman invasion changed the traditional Celtic way of life in Britain.

Classroom Ideas

Children could gain information about life before the Roman invasion and contrast that with how it changed afterwards. Some children could make a Celtic settlement and some make a Roman one and then compare the differences. The children could then assess how much of the way we live today has been influenced by the Roman invasion. They could play 'What If' - "What would our country be like now if the Romans had not been successful at invading?"
