The group of friends go swimming and, while at the pool, the conversation turns to kissing. Max, 16 years old, walks past the infatuated Monica (aged 11), and declares that he’s kissed most of the other girls at the pool. Tony (aged 13) is impressed, but Monica is crushed. Lara (aged 12) and Gabriel (aged 13) talk about how crass Max is about kissing, and then end up kissing each other! Immediately afterwards, they panic and run to hide. Lara is upset and Gabriel is anxious. Their friends spot the kiss from across the pool and they are curious to find out if Lara and Gabriel are now going out. Lara and Gabriel have to talk to one another and confess how they feel. It may not be what their friends expect, but their honesty is imperative for their relationship. And as for Max, he manages to kiss someone else, but no one you would expect.

This could be used as part of topic on developing relationships exploring changing emotions and experiences of young teenagers. Children could discuss the emotions felt by each of the characters. Could also be used to explore the emotional changes experienced during puberty and as part of a programme of support for the transition to secondary school, allowing children time to consider personal changes that they may experience. Children could also privately consider Lara's questions during the quiz and quietly reflect on their own personal responses.
