Classroom Ideas

Can be used to explore the character of Banquo in more detail. In pairs, as Banquo and Macbeth, students can experiment with different readings of the scene. For example, in the first reading, Banquo could be rather taken with the Witches, but Macbeth is sarcastic and dismissive; in the next reading, roles are reversed and it is Banquo who is keen to move on and not ponder these events. In more complex readings, students could experiment with the characters swinging from one reaction to another. What gestures, movement and tone can students add to their performance? What have they learnt about the language in this scene and the different ways audiences can react to it?
