Classroom Ideas

This clip could be used to highlight the economic activity and trade in India. Present the children with some cardamom spice - allow them to smell it. Can they identify it? Where do they think it comes from? Play the clip and ask the pupils to concentrate on the journey of the cardamom from pod to plate. Presented with a blank grid, ask the pupils to plot the main stages of the spice's journey (planting, fertilising, harvesting, drying, grinding, packaging, shipping, cooking). Allow the pupils to present their thoughts and compare with others in the group. Alternatively, pupils could place cards into the correct chronological order to illustrate their understanding.
