A policy of 'busing' is introduced in the early 1970s among primary school children in Southhall, London, as the Asian community reaches 30-40% of the local population. A discussion of this policy of 'dispersal' - spreading immigrant children around all the schools in the Borough of Ealing - follows.

Classroom Ideas

This clip could be used to stimulate the exploration of various approaches to integration and segregation. It could also be used as a prompt for a Citizenship debate about multi-racial Britain and as a comparative study of busing in the UK and the USA.
