Description

Presenter Paul Martin visits Stourbridge to see one of the last working glass cones at the heart of Britain’s historic glass industry. Glass artist Charlotte Hughes Martin puts Paul through his paces as she teaches him how to make a glass bowl. She shows him some the important techniques of her trade, including shaping the molten glass, turning, blowing and finally finishing in the kiln.

Classroom Ideas

Could be used to provide an insight into the craft of glass blowing. Students could write a production plan for the glass plate in the clip, listing some of the specialist tools, techniques and processes used. They could then discuss how heat affects the materials and the changes in state that take place during the production process.
