Classroom Ideas

The ideas raised in the clip can be repeated using a calculator. For example, the children can be asked to put 1/10 into the calculator. They will need to enter 0.1. This can be repeated with a range of numbers with one decimal place. Once children are familiar with this they can play the following game. In pairs, choose a target number between zero and ten with one decimal place, eg 5.6, then deal two-digit cards to each player. Use these to generate a second number. Decide which way around you wish to use the digits, eg if you draw four and three you could make 4.3 or 3.4. Add the number to the target number. The player closest to ten scores a point.
