Aberdeen sea front has suffered in the past from disparate developments. Current plans for expansion of facilities are now organised under one council masterplan. The plan aims to knit existing facilites together as well as attract new residents and visitors to the area. The plan must balance human demands with preservation of the coastline.

This provides a case study on tourism in a coastal resort: the reasons it is chosen by tourists, how they have coped with the influx of people and how they are ensuring that the resort continues to flourish - link to the concept of sustainability. Can be used as a case study on how erosion can be prevented. Provides a discussion starter on what groups of people would visit such a place and the possible future scenarios that may occur (most likely, preferable, worst case, impact of climate change etc.).
