For Christians, happiness comes from knowing who they are and what is really important in life - not money. Jesus spoke about the place of wealth in people lives; he said ‘sell what you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven’ (Luke 18:22). Dr Robert Beckford explains Jesus' views on money and a group of young people discuss the importance of money in their life.

This clip could be used as a starter in a lesson on Christian teachings about charity. Following the clip, provide groups of students with different teachings from Jesus on giving to charity and helping the poor. The students can use these to create role-plays or short films illustrating how Christians might put these teachings into practice today. These can then be presented back to the whole class.
