National Poetry Day

Events for National Poetry Day.

 National Poetry Day took place on Thursday 9th October with 'work' as the theme.

Events were held in libraries, bookshops, theatres, clubs, schools and shops across Scotland to mark National Poetry Day.

Events included:

'Poets at Work Exchange' in Glasgow. Poets took part in readings and workshops at workplaces and schools.

'Pregnant Pause' in Edinburgh. A poetry workshop for expectant mothers at The Scottish poetry Library.

'A Celebration of Poetry' with poet Mandy Haggith and singer Agnes Dickson who joined in with the local poetry group in Lairg.

'Biro Babes and Men with Pens'. Motherwell Library held an open session with North Lanarkshire writers' groups.

'Lunchtime Poetry Reading'. Local poets read their work at Shetland Library.

The Scottish Poetry Library has released a set of poetry postcards in Scots, Doric, Gaelic and English. The postcards have been sent to schools, libraries and bookshops across Scotland and are available from the Scottish Poetry website.
