Mark in Abbey Park

Mark gives an honest opinion

First impression of the East Midlands

Do you ever wonder what sort of first impression the East Midlands makes on a visitor?

Well, we recently decided to find out.

Mark (aka Hoffers) is an airline pilot from Australia and recently visited the region to see his friend - EMT video journalist Brady Haran.

Rather than take him on a typical tour of local attractions, Brady did something completely different.

Starting at each city’s train station, he asked Mark to just spend an hour wandering around Nottingham, Leicester and Derby.

The whole thing was captured on film, so you can join Mark as he gives his “first impression” of our cities.

You can also see the photos Mark took during his travels.

Nottingham made a very wet first impression, as Mark was greeted by grey skies and falling rain - then a pint of beer that did not quite agree with him.

Leicester also started poorly, with construction work marring the city centre - but Mark made his way to Abbey Park, which quickly changed his opinion.

But Derby had a secret weapon which won Mark's heart!
