EastEnders named Best Soap

Tue 6 May 2008

Thank you for voting EastEnders your favourite soap at this year's British Soap Awards.

EastEnders scooped four trophies at the British Soap Awards, including the Best Soap gong. Other honours included the Best Dramatic Performance from a Young Actor or Actress, won by Jamie Borthwick (Jay Brown).

The Best Storyline gong went to the fallout from Max and Stacey's affair and Jo Joyner took Best Dramatic Performance for her role as Max's wife, Tanya.

EastEnders executive producer Diederick Santer told us: "We're thrilled with our latest Soap Awards! I'm so pleased that Jo Joyner, Jamie Borthwick, and our 'Max & Stacey' storyline and cast got the recognition they deserved.

"The most gratifying award for us all, however, has to be Best British Soap. I'm hugely grateful to everyone at the show for making us the best, and to all those people - including many EastEnders website users - who took the time to vote for us. We've had a great year. But now it's time to go up to the next level..."
