Emma as Honey

Emma Barton to leave EastEnders

Mon 21 Apr 2008

It's been announced that Emma will leave the show later this year as her character, Honey Mitchell, is to be written out.

Honey first arrived in Walford in November 2005, and soon fell for Billy Mitchell's charms. Already heavily pregnant when they married, Honey went into labour during the ceremony.

When her daughter was diagnosed with Down's syndrome, Honey struggled to come to terms with the news, initially rejecting the baby. She later changed her mind about having her adopted, and came to love and accept baby Janet.

Honey's known for being very sweet but somewhat dizzy, and tends to get her words in a muddle. Some classic Honeyisms include "What are you incinerating?", (instead of insinuating), “Do you buy orgasmic meat and veg?” and refering to her contractions as "contraptions".

Emma Barton said of her departure from EastEnders : “I’ve loved playing Honey. I'm so grateful for the Down's syndrome storyline and I will continue to be patron for the Down's Syndrome Association. I am looking forward to going back to my roots in musical theatre.”
