Ruby reveals her heartache

Fri 13 May 2005

Ruby relives the trauma of her mum and Scarlet's deaths. Chrissie returns the murder weapon to Pauline.

Ruby

Ruby reveals to Johnny that she knows he's been lying to her. She begs him to tell her that he hasn't been seeing Tina for 10 years. He has no choice but to admit the truth.

Tina and Pat

Tina stands in the middle of the Square, distraught. Pat assures her that she's done the right thing. It's best to be honest with kids. She's sure that Ruby'll come around eventually.

Ruby

Ruby's disgusted that Johnny cheated on her mum. He insists that she knew and approved of his relationship with Tina. Ruby refuses to believe that her mum would have lied to her too.

Johnny

Johnny states that Ruby's too young to understand how relationships work. Infuriated, Ruby accuses Johnny of being glad that her mum died as it left him free to be with Tina.

Martin, Sonia and Dot

Martin and Sonia ask Dot and Jim if they can stay with them. Dot's worried that Pauline will be broken-hearted. Meanwhile, Zoe calls round to help Chrissie tidy Sam's flat.

Johnny

Johnny explains that he doesn't talk about the fire because he wants to protect Ruby. She counters that his silence doesn't shield her from the thought of her mother and sister trapped in that burning house.

Ruby

Ruby believes that the fire was started deliberately. She wonders who would want to hurt them. She quizzes Johnny about the business he's in. He claims that he's just a property developer.

Pauline and Dot

Dot visits Pauline to make peace. She warns that if she doesn't back down over Chloe, she'll lose everything. Pauline ignores her. Meanwhile, Tina packs her bags and leaves.

Ruby

Ruby's sickened that the murders went unpunished. She wants the perpetrators imprisoned. Johnny states that there are other kinds of justice. Quietly, he reveals that they got their just desserts.

Johnny

Johnny's angry that Ruby's had to deal with so much pain. He wants her to be happy like any other child. Ruby explains that she can't move on when she misses her mum so much.

Chrissie and Zoe

Chrissie works out that Zoe knows nothing of the hidden doorstop. She praises her for getting on with her life. Zoe retorts that she's still traumatised by Den's murder.

Ruby

Ruby accuses Johnny of loving Scarlet more than her. She claims that he chose to rescue Scarlet rather than her. He grabbed Ruby by mistake, unaware that they'd swapped rooms.

Chrissie

Chrissie scrubs the blood from the doorstop. She returns it to Pauline. Later, she visits Den's grave. She informs him that she's left nothing to chance and is enjoying herself.

Ruby

Ruby remembers the disappointment on Johnny's face when he realised that he'd rescued her instead of Scarlet. She believes that he wishes that she'd died instead of her sister.

Johnny

Johnny claims that Ruby's mind is playing tricks on her. She asks if she's someone else's child. It's the only explanation that she can find for the coldness he shows her.

Ruby and Johnny

Ruby apologises to Johnny that he's stuck with the wrong daughter. Overwrought, she runs outside, where Stacey's been waiting all day. Ruby falls into her friend's arms.
