Firmly established as one of Britain's leading character actors, Bill's gone from bit-part actor in shows like Minder and Bergerac to the star of films such as Love Actually and Shaun of the Dead.
He won a Best Actor BAFTA for his portrayal of newspaper editor Cameron Foster in State Of Play.

Film appearances have included parts in I Capture The Castle (with Romola Garai and Tara Fitzgerald), Underworld (with Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen), Still Crazy (with Jimmy Nail and Timothy Spall, who he later co-starred with in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet).
Bill can be heard as the voice of Dylan in the movie version of The Magic Roundabout, and played Sam Gamgee in the classic Radio 4 version of The Lord Of The Rings. He also played Slartibartfast in The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy film.
Away from acting, Bill had a good old moan about life in the BBC TWO series Grumpy Old Men.
