Anna Friel

A popular star in TV and film dramas, who first found fame as Brookside's controversial Beth Jordache.

During her two years as Beth Jordache in Brookside her character was involved in a number of controversial storylines covering topics including sexuality, child abuse and murder.  Her character’s smooch with Margaret Clemence, played by Nicola Stephenson, was the first pre-watershed lesbian kiss on British television.

She left Brookside in 1995, and her first film role, Stephen Poliakoff's The Tribe, quickly followed.  She’s since starred in a number of movies, including Me Without You, Goal! And Niagra Motel.

TV credits include Perfect Strangers, where she again worked with Poliakoff, Our Mutual Friend, Fields of Gold and Watermelon.  Before appearing in Brookside, Anna had a brief spell in Emmerdale and appeared in the classic 1991 drama GBH.
