Amanda's perhaps best known for her role as Anne Elliot in Persuasion. Anne's resigned to being a spinster when Captain Wentworth (Ciaran Hinds) who she mistakenly refused to marry eight years earlier comes back into her life. The production features many other respected actors including Fiona Shaw, Simon Russell Beale and Sophie Thompson, sister of Emma.
She's appeared in a host of other costume dramas including Anna Karenina, The Forsyte Saga and Daniel Deronda, where she played Gwendolen Harleth's mother.
