Amanda Burton

Sam (Amanda Burton)

Best known for her lead role in Silent Witness, other notable roles include The Commander, Peak Practice and Brookside.

Amanda played uncompromising medic Sam Ryan in Silent Witness, between 1996 and 2004.  The role won her Most Popular Actress in the National Television Awards.

She first made her name in Liverpool-based soap Brookside, and more recently has starred in The Commander.

After giving up her role of Heather Black (nee Huntingdon, nee Haversham) in Brookside, Amanda moved onto Boon, opposite Michael Elphick. Parts in Casualty of War, Medics and Peak Practice followed.

In 1998, Amanda took on a very different role in The Gift, playing Lynn, a woman dying of cancer.

Her more recent work have included The Whistle-Blower, with Neil Pearson and Emma Cunniffe, Little Bird with Niamh Cusack, Helen West with Rita Tushingham, and the children's drama Pollyanna.

Amanda has yet to be tempted onto the silver screen, but went to America to film a documentary about two orphaned bear cubs being raised and returned to the wild.
