James' junior researcher Matt is the only one who knows of James' affair. He functions as Ashika's confidante and sometimes her analyst, often pointing out stuff she's not aware of herself.

Like many Tory researchers, Matt's gay, and totally at ease with his sexuality. Whilst he's not overtly camp, he can be quite fey. He and Ashika aren't friends because of any outsiders' affinity, they'd both be horrified by the suggestion. They're just friends. In fact, it's Matt who makes the most openly racist remarks (and Ashika the most homophobic).

He's a hardcore libertarian. He hates smoking bans, fox-hunting bans, I.D. cards and gay rights groups. He's the most ideological of our characters and the least tribal. Scott assumes that Matt fancies him. He doesn't. He fancies spotty guys with baseball caps and council estate fringes.

Pip Carter

Pip graduated from RADA. Party Animals is his TV debut.
