Young Jane Eyre (Georgie Henley)


Orphaned at a young age, Jane is placed with her wealthy aunt Mrs Reed (Tara Fitzgerald) who neglects Jane in favour of her own three spoiled children.

Mrs Reed brands Jane a liar and sends her to Lowood School where she remains until the age of 19.



Rising star Georgie's biggest role to date is Lucy in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe movie, released in 2005. She'll also be seen in the sequel, Prince Caspian, due in 2008.

  • Lady Ingram (Francesca Annis)


    The mother of Blanche Ingram, she sees her daughter and Rochester as the perfect match, and is wary of Jane Eyre getting in the way.


    Francesca's other period drama appearances include Wives and Daughters, Madame Bovary, Edward VII, and Cleopatra.

    She started out as a child actress in the 1950s and 1960s in films such as Carry On Teacher and Cleopatra.

  • Blanche Ingram (Christina Cole)


    Beautiful Blanche has her eyes firmly set on Rochester. But is she motivated by love or enhancing her position in society?


    Christina's no stranger to period dramas, having previously appeared in He Knew He Was Right, Marple and Foyle's War.

    She'll also be appearing in the new James Bond film, Casino Royale, which stars Daniel Craig.

  • Mrs Fairfax (Lorraine Ashbourne)


    The kind housekeeper at Thornfield Hall, who hires Jane as Governess. She soon becomes wary for Jane because of her growing friendship with Rochester.


    Lorraine's drama credits include In a Land of Plenty and Playing the Field, plus guest roles in episodes of Casualty, The Bill and Peak Practice.

    She's also appeared in several movies, such as King Kong, Fever Pitch and Jack and Sarah.

  • Grace Poole (Pam Ferris)


    A mysterious servant at Thornfield Hall. Is she really responsible for the strange noises Jane hears?


    Best known as Ma Larkin, in the hugely popular Sunday evening drama, The Darling Buds Of May, Pam recently starred in crime drama Rosemary and Thyme.

    Her previous period drama credits include Middlemarch, Our Mutual Friend and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, with Jane Eyre's Tara Fitzgerald.

    Jane's wealthy aunt neglects her in favour of her own three spoiled children. Mrs Reed's spitefulness leads her to withhold news that could change Jane's life for the better, and instead sends her to boarding school.

    Aidan McArdle

    Aidan did a star turn as Dudley Moore in the BAFTA-nominated drama Not Only But Always. He starred alongside Rhys Ifans, who played Peter Cook, in the story of the legendary comic duo's strained relationship.

    Other TV credits include Riot at the Rite, Any Time Now, plus episodes of Casualty, No Angels and Marple.
