Season 1
Matt was a Los Angeles police officer and discovered his ability when he overheard the thoughts of Molly Walker. Her parents had been killed by Sylar and she was now an orphan. With The Company continuing to abduct people with abilities, Matt, Ted and Mr Bennet united to destroy The Company's tracking system, which turned out to be Molly. Their quest led them to Kirby Plaza. Molly tried to locate Sylar for them, but he was already heading there. Matt tried to shoot Sylar, but he flung the bullets back at him and shot Matt several times.
Season 2
Matt survived the bullets and got a promotion as a detective. His first assignment was to investigate the mysterious death of Kaito Nakamura. Teaming up with Nathan, they discovered a photo that held vital clues to the killer. That killer was believed to be Maury Parkman, Matt's dad. They all met up in Maury's flat and this was where Matt learned he had far more power than he had ever imagined.
Season 3
Matt was the first on the case to track down Nathan's assassin, but he was shocked to discover it was Future Peter. Banished to a desert, he was helped by an African called Usutu. During a trance, Matt discovered that in the future he'd married a girl called Daphne, had a baby girl and adopted Molly. He was shocked to the core when he foresaw Daphne killed in an explosion. So he set about finding Daphne, aka The Speedster. Arriving at JFK, Daphne was already waiting for him, having been sent by Pinehearst. She was initially resistant to their future, but softened and tried to get out of recruiting him. With a clever mind trick, he made Arthur believe they were both dead. When Daphne went to her family farmstead in Kansas, Matt followed her, and during the eclipse discovered that she had Cerebral Palsy. Matt forgave Daphne's villainy, as he knew she had a heart of gold. At the end of Volume 3, Matt tracked down Isaac's sketchbook and helped Ando realise his abilities of power amplification, allowing Daphne to rescue Hiro and destroy the formula. Volume 4 began and Matt was trying to live a normal life. It couldn't last and Matt was visited by an illusion of Usutu, who told him he had been chosen as a prophet. To his surprise, he had gained the ability to paint the future. With this new talent Matt drew Daphne being shot, which of course came true. Escaping from the plane crash he wanted payback for her death. Teaming up with the other fugitives (Mohinder and Peter) they captured H.R.G. in Costa Verde. Matt used his power to force memories out of H.R.G. and discovered that Daphne was alive. Trying to locate her, he painted several pictures of himself looking like a terrorist. Matt was captured in Building 26 after breaking in to try and rescue Daphne. The Hunter drugged and dumped him in the centre of Washington D.C, looking like a terrorist and making his terrifying prediction a reality. Nathan helped Matt to disarm the bomb, but then took him back into custody. Matt escaped from Building 26 and took Daphne to hospital. She died from an infection, but not before he was able to use his power to access her consciousness and say goodbye. Blinded by grief, Matt wanted revenge and went after The Hunter and his secret love, Alena. He forced Danko to admit his true life and occupation to Alena, but could not bring himself to kill her. As Danko fired the bullet that would kill him, Matt was rescued at the last moment by Hiro and discovered that he did have something to live for, his baby son. He returned baby Matt to his mother in Los Angeles, intending to go into hiding. However, they were attacked almost immediately, which made Matt realise he had to go back and fight for their freedom. Finding Nathan dead and Sylar defeated by Peter, he reluctantly used his ability to wipe Sylar's mind and make Sylar believe he was Nathan.
