Tara FitzGerald
Tara shot to fame with a role in the hit film, Hear My Song. She went on to appear in TV dramas The Camomile Lawn, Anglo Saxon Attitudes and the film Brassed Off. More recent roles have included I Capture the Castle, Marple and The Virgin Queen, and in 2007 she joins the cast of Waking the Dead.

Tara's career began, as soon as she left drama school, when she was spotted and offered a role in the film Hear My Song*. The film was a big success and she immediately became a household name.
She went on to take several high profile roles on television, including appearing alongside Toby Stephens, Jennifer Ehle and Paul Eddington* in The Camomile Lawn*, directed by Sir Peter Hall*.

Tara followed these up with a critically acclaimed West End run in Our Song by Keith Waterhouse. She starred opposite the legendary Peter O'Toole*. Later roles in the theatre have included Ophelia in Hamlet* with Ralph Fiennes*, the title role in Antigone and Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire.
She co-starred with Hugh Grant* twice in quick succession in the films Sirens and The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill, But Came Down a Mountain. She then took a lead role in Brassed Off*, opposite Ewan McGregor, Stephen Tompkinson and Pete Postlethwaite*.

Tara then returned to working on TV. She took roles in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall*, with Toby Stephens and Rupert Graves*, The Woman in White* with Andrew Lincoln* and The Student Prince*, alongside Robson Green.
In 2006, she stars alongside Toby Stephens for a third time, when she plays Mrs Reed in the BBC's passionate new adaptation of Jane Eyre.
Earlier in 2006, Tara played Lettice Knowles in The Virgin Queen. The dramatisation of the life of the legendary monarch, Elizabeth I also starred Anne-Marie Duff, Dexter Fletcher, Tom Hardy and Joanne Whalley.
Other films have included I Capture the Castle*, Rancid Aluminium* and Five Children and It*. She also appeared opposite Hugh Bonneville in Love Again, a TV drama based on the life of poet Philip Larkin.

Like The Virgin Queen co-stars Anne-Marie Duff and Tom Hardy, she studied acting at the Drama Centre* in London.
Her great-aunt was the actress Geraldine FitzGerald*.
Tara won the New York Critics Circle Best Supporting Actress Award in 1995 for her role as Ophelia, opposite Ralph Fiennes* as the title role in Hamlet.
