Ray StevensonRay Stevenson

Ray Stevenson is a familiar face to TV drama fans. He's appeared in a whole range of programmes including City Central, At Home with the Braithwaites and Catherine Cookson drama, The Dwelling Place. In 2005 he can be seen in the epic drama Rome.

What's he been in?

  • Ray plays Titus Pullo in Rome. He and Lucius Vorenus (Kevin McKidd) are both soldiers in the Roman army, whose lives and loves intertwine with those of the rulers of Roman society.
  • Ray Stevenson as DI Tony Baynham in 'City Central'

  • One of Ray's first roles was in the Catherine Cookson drama The Dwelling Place*. He also appeared in a later Catherine Cookson adptation, The Tide of Life*, which starred Gillian Kearney*.
  • He went on to appear in a huge range of TV dramas, including the BAFTA-nominated* Band of Gold* and Peak Practice*. He took a lead alongside Paul Nicholls in the police drama City Central*. He's also guest-starred in popular shows such as Waking the Dead, Dalziel and Pascoe, and Murphy's Law.

  • Ray took the role of Graham Braithwaite in At Home with the Braithwaites*, the hugely successful drama series about a lottery winner starring Amanda Redman.
  • In 2004 he took the role of the knight Dagonet in the big-budget Hollywood film, King Arthur*. The film starred Clive Owen* and Keira Knightley*. It didn't get great reviews, but won Ray a whole new army of American fans.

    Personal Details

  • Ray was married to actress Ruth Gemmell*, who he met when they worked together on the drama Band of Gold. They later played a husband and wife on screen in Peak Practice. But the couple are now divorced.
  • He was born in 1964 in Northern Ireland but his family moved to Newcastle and he spent much of his childhood there.
