Nicola StephensonNicola Stephenson

She made history by puckering up for TV's first pre-watershed lesbian kiss in Brookside*, before becoming a Holby City regular for three years. Her other roles range from gritty northern drama Clocking Off to the sitcom Dead Man Weds. In 2006, she joins Keith Barron and Gaynor Faye in new vet drama The Chase.

What's she been in?

  • Nicola stars in The Chase, a new BBC ONE drama set in a struggling Yorkshire veterinary practice. The Kay Mellor-penned programme also stars Keith Barron, Gaynor Faye, and Michelle Holmes.
  • She first found fame as Margaret Clemence in Channel 4's soap Brookside*, between 1991 and 1994. Her character's eight-second smooch with Anna Friel's Beth Jordache caused controversy in 1993, but was later voted 59th in Channel 4's The 100 Greatest TV Moments of All Time.
  • Nicola as Julie in 'Holby City'

  • Five years after leaving Brookside Close, Nicola became part of the original cast of Holby City. She played Julie Fitzjohn from 1999 to 2001, alongside close friends Angela Griffin and Lisa Faulkner. Her character also turned up in several episodes of Casualty. Back in 1990, Nicola appeared in the kids' medical drama Children's Ward.
  • Since quitting Holby, Nicola's been a regular in Clocking Off, Northern Lights and Dead Man Weds, as well as guesting in an episode of Waking The Dead.
  • Nicola as Jess, with Lennie James as James in 'Without You'

  • She's starred in several one-off dramas including All In The Game, with Ray Winstone, The Hitch, with Jason Merrells, and Without You, with Lennie James. Nicola's also appeared in the short film Nits, in Radio 4's Night Class, and on Living TV's Most Haunted*.

  • She was born on 5th July 1971, and spent her childhood in Oldham. She currently lives in London.
  • Nicola with Fern Britton and Lisa Faulkner on 'Ready, Steady, Cook'

  • She dated Cracker and Burn It star Kieran O'Brien* for several years. After they split she had a period of being single, but now has a new love in her life, a musician called Glyn.
