Jared HarrisJared Harris

Star of Coup!, the drama about an attempted coup in Equataroial Guinea, Jared's other TV credits include To The Ends Of The Earth and The Other Boleyn Girl. Off-screen, he's famed for being the son of legendary actor Richard Harris and being married to Silent Witness's Emilia Fox.

What's he been in?

  • Jared stars as Simon Mann in Coup!, a drama from acclaimed satirist John Fortune. It tells the story of how Mann found himself betrayed, arrested, and confined to an African jail following his involvement in an attempted coup of Equatorial Guinea.
  • Jared as Captain Anderson in 'To The Ends Of The Earth'

  • In 2005, he starred alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Sam Neill and Charles Dance in To The Ends Of The Earth. Jared played crusty old seadog Captain Anderson, who took charge of a rickety old warship, on a dramatic journey from England to Australia.
  • He played King Henry VIII in 2003's The Other Boleyn Girl, alongside Jodhi May as Anne Boleyn.

  • Jared's had a prolific career in movies. His credits include Last of the Mohicans, Natural Born Killers, Lost In Space, Sylvia, and Ocean's Twelve.
  • In 1996 he played legendary pop artist Andy Warhol in the film I Shot Andy Warhol*. He's also appeared in two episodes of the American drama Without A Trace*.

  • Despite being the son of a famous actor, it didn't automatically mean he was destined to follow in his father's footsteps. "I didn't grow up with a burning desire to be an actor," he reveals. "I didn't act when I was at school. I was very shy and no-one in my family thought it was something I would naturally gravitate towards."
  • It was only when he was cast in a college production while attending North Carolina's Duke University that he got the acting bug. After leaving the USA and returning to England, he spent several years working on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company*.

  • Jared made his screen debut in the 1989 film The Rachel Papers*, which starred Dexter Fletcher of Hotel Babylon and The Virgin Queen fame.
  • He admits to being very argumentative and loving a good fight.

  • Jared was born on 24th August 1961 in London, to parents Richard* and Elizabeth. He has two brothers, Damian, a director, and Jamie, also an actor.
  • He married actress Emilia Fox in July 2005. The couple met while starring in the London revival of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Like Jared, the Silent Witness star comes from good acting stock - her mother is Joanna David, her father is Edward Fox*, and her uncle is James Fox*.
