Imelda Staunton
Imelda Staunton's many and varied performances include films such as Shakespeare In Love, Peter's Friends, and the starring role in Oscar-nominated Vera Drake. She's worked extensively for the RSC and the National Theatre. Her TV credits include Fingersmith and the BBC updating of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

In 2005, Imelda joined a stellar cast, including Charles Dance and Rupert Evans, in the BBC ONE period drama Fingersmith. Adapted from Sarah Waters' (Tipping The Velvet) Booker-nominated novel, it tells the story of a pick-pocket's elaborate scam to make millions.
Later in the year, Imelda takes on the role of Polly in Peter Bowker's adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream, playing the wife of Bill Paterson. The two of them have come to Dream Park holiday camp to celebrate their daughter Hermia's engagement, but with fairy magic all around, things don't go as expected. The drama also stars Johnny Vegas, Dean Lennox Smith, and Sharon Small.
2004 saw Imelda deliver a career-defining performance in the title role of Mike Leigh's Oscar-nominated drama, Vera Drake. The film tells the story a working class woman performing backstreet abortions in 1950s London.
In TV Imelda's roles have included playing a police woman in the television drama Murder, Cambridge Spies, David Copperfield, Midsomer Murders, Tales From The Crypt and Is It Legal?

Imelda starred alongside Julie Walters and Anna Chancellor in the film Crush.
She also appeared in the 2003 film Blackball alongisde Two Thousand Acres Of Sky star Paul Kaye.
Imelda appeared in Dennis Potter's The Singing Detective and in Frank Stubbs Promotes alongside Auf Wiedersehen, Pet's Timothy Spall.

Imelda's worked extensively in the theatre since graduating from RADA, in roles from Shakespeare to musicals.
Later in 2005, audiences will see Staunton back on the big screen in a children's film, Nanny McPhee, written by and starring her friend Emma Thompson, in which she does a turn as "Very Grumpy Cook Below Stairs".

Imelda appeared with The Matrix star Keanu Reeves in the 1993 film adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.
She's an accomplished singer and even fronted a big band for a while, although she admits she "hasn't sung a note for a while now."
