Giles asked for way too much money! Look, he's already invested in all the tooling. Unfortunately he hasn't been able to show at what price he can buy in his next order. Thus a bottom line target retail price cannot be marked out. Without this he there's no way he can approach a toy or sports retailer.

I think Shaf was wise not to proceed with taking 90% of the equity, in the sense that he would have appeared overly mercenary to many viewers.
I think a previous commenter had an interesting point about the sticks in the ground. A small spike at the end of the extending posts that you push in the ground would remove the need for the big bases, and would reduce costs by a large factor, and make the product more portable.

Giles need some serious help. He was given good advice about reducing the manufacturing costs. Giles should be marketing his product to schools, community centres, sports clubs, leisure centres etc. These organisations are able to buy several of his products at any one time.
Giles should also consider selling an optional extra, ball on a string along with a plastic racket which can be attached to the top of each pole.

My main concern is that the children may not be able to extend the posts to their full height. Another concern is that sometimes a game of football is spontaneous and people are unlikely to want to carry this on the offchance that they may play a game - most people wear clothes, however.

The drop in equity was a mistake but we all make mistakes under pressure. Otherwise the product is good if a little over priced. But with a Dragon on board outlets will be intrested, his MOQs will increase and cost price drop so he'll be able to sell cheaper.

A nice guy - pleasant and easy to work with, I should imagine.
Sadly, I was out the second he started describing why people might need his product.
Instead of investing over £20 in his goalposts (and presumably another £20 for the opposing goalposts), the image of two sticks, stuck in the turf of my local park, drifted into my mind.
Those'll do for a quick kick around, I decided.
Sorry, Giles!

He has a very good idea but zilch business acumen! Also, you don't go from offering 20% equity straight down to 90% so quickly, it just doesn't make sense, it makes you look desperate.
He needs to turn his business around himself, use distributors, cut costs and invest in online advertising first. When he's done that and starts making a profit, which he has a good chance of doing providing he does it right, he should go back onto Dragon's Den and I'm sure he'll get a backer.

It seems like it is pain to carry that around. You need at least two of them. I don't think it will be that popular at all.

I play for a football club, and I feel that this product could be successful if aimed at the coaching side rather than for kids.
Although it doesn't have a crossbar this isn't such a big deal when it comes to training, in my opinion.

Internet PPC (Pay per Click) Marketing Campaign is paid for in arrears and you can get purchase orders from the likes of Argos to not need Dragon investment i.e. take these to the bank for an advance. It would also not be too expensive to contact e-procurement houses who cater for schools.

if a ball hits a post with speed itll move the top half of the post, arguements will still occur as to if it was a goal or not. With stabilisation and a net itd be a better product
