All applications for the new Online Dragons must include a video pitch that is submitted with the application form. To help you to get it just right check out our guide.
Shaf Rasul and Julie Meyer in the Online Den.
Your pitch must last between one and three minutes and must include the following key pieces of information:
Your name
A description of your business idea or product
The amount of money you need and how you'll spend it
The percentage you are prepared to exchange for the cash injection
Additional information you could talk about includes; what makes your product unique, a profile of any trading/development to date, any protection such as patents or trademarks.
Please do not include website addresses, references to other brand names or music in your pitch
Make it clear you know what you're talking about. You can always check our glossary to brush up on your business knowledge.
Once you're ready you'll need to film your pitch and then transfer it to a computer before uploading it.
You can film your pitch using a video camera, a webcam, or a stills camera/mobile phone which offers reasonable quality video recording.
Here are some tips to ensure you make the best recording:
Check the light levels - you can look a bit sinister if it's too dark.
If you are using a mobile phone film in landscape not portrait.
Check your sound - we need to hear you.
Once you're happy with your pitch (remember it should last no longer than three minutes) you'll then need to transfer it to a computer, unless you've used your webcam which can record directly to your computer.
Modern video cameras connect to your computer either via USB or Firewire.
Tape based video cameras:
If your camera uses tapes then you'll also need to use some video editing software to transfer the video. If you are unsure about this then you may have received an editing package with your camera, you can also use Windows Movie Maker on a PC or iMovie on a Mac. Further information on using these packages will be included in their documentation or is widely available on the Internet.
Tapeless video cameras:
If your camera records without tape then it should be a simple case of connecting it to your computer (or inserting the media card into a reader). You can then browse to the relevant folder and upload it directly from the Dragons' Den website's application form. Again consult your camera's documentation and if you want to edit your pitch in any way use one of the options above.
Webcam:
If you are using a webcam, software such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie will allow you to record directly to the computer.
Digital stills camera/mobile phone:
A digital stills camera or mobile phone will use exactly the same method as a video camera that does not record to tape.
Fill out the application form in full and then submit it. You will immediately be asked to include a video and will need to click on browse to locate your video file. Select your file and then submit your form.
Video submissions are currently limited to 80MB in size
