Farming radio takes off

A internet-based radio station covering all aspects of the world of farming is attracting audiences from farmers across the world, and has even been the subject of a documentary for Japanese TV.

A web-based radio station by farmers for farmers has been attracting interest from farmers across the world.

The station's founder is John Holman, from Gillingham, in north Dorset.

He spotted a need for farmers to receive news and information on agriculture matters in a convenient way, as farmers can often work in isolated and rural areas and may not have much contact with other people in the same line of work.

Say John, "We realised what a fragile network there is for farmers. They usually work in isolation."

"My dream has always been that people in the community could make their own media and now that we have cheaper technology it's become a realistic dream."

And John's dream has taken off - the radio station has farmers from around the world logging on, and is continuing to grow in popularity.
